Training Your Chatbot

Training Your AI Chatbot

Learn how to train your AI chatbot with websites, documents, audio, and app integrations.

Training your AI chatbot is how you turn a blank assistant into one that answers questions about your business, products, and services. This hub collects every supported source, explains what each one is best for, and links to the step-by-step guide so you can add content without guessing.

Choose a Training Source

  • Training overview — how training works and what the assistant uses when it answers.
  • Website & links — crawl pages, follow links, and add specific URLs.
  • PDFs & files — upload manuals, price sheets, policies, and other documents.
  • Audio — transcribe calls, podcasts, and voice memos into searchable text.
  • BookStack — sync a BookStack wiki so its pages become a knowledge source.
  • App integrations — connect supported apps and keep their content in sync.
  • Fine-tuning — correct and refine answers with updated question-and-answer pairs.

How Training Sources Work Together

Most chatbots use more than one source. A website crawl keeps general pages current, uploaded PDFs cover detailed manuals, and app integrations bring in content that lives outside your site. Each source is indexed separately, so you can add a new one without rebuilding the whole knowledge base. When an answer is wrong or missing, check the source first, update it, then re-sync before changing instructions.

Best Practices Before You Train

  • Train from approved, current material rather than drafts or outdated pages.
  • Keep one topic per page so retrieval can match the right source.
  • Re-sync a source after you change prices, policies, or product details.
  • Test the questions customers actually ask, then correct gaps with fine-tuning.

Next Steps

Start with the training overview if you are new, or go straight to website & links to add your first source. When the knowledge base is ready, follow the installation guide to put the chatbot on your site.
